The staff and I at Euro-American often brainstorm ideas on how to inspire and refresh our clients’ daily routines. Speaking of senior lifestyle, today, the topic of the day was this single word and all the power it really holds: “senior”. Who said that after you turn 65 you suddenly receive the title “senior”- as if it were a privilege? Calling someone a “senior” or “elderly” doesn’t do much other than label them as different, incapable and clueless about the latest trends or technology, but it doesn’t have to be this way! There are countless ways to enjoy the aging process- but only if you’re up for it! You can be over 65 and listen to rap. You can be over 70 and watch horror movies because they’ve always been your favorite. And guess what- you can still date, flirt and embrace what has always set you apart from others. Here are some some feel-good activities that have no age limit that will set you on a great path to senior empowerment!

One easy way to senior empowerment is a good pampering session. You’d be surprised at how much better you instantly feel after a makeover, clean shave, or hair appointment at a local salon. Studies have even shown that individuals who do their makeup and dress their best tend to perform better at almost everything they do, whether it be work, or something as simple as going out to get groceries. If you’re interested, visit a makeup counter at your local Macy’s or Nordstrom to get a free consultation and makeover. You may end up going home with a few new beauty products and advice on skincare.

Try to get together some of your friends and family members of various ages. The best part about taking the time to share advice and unique experiences is that you truly never know what you’ll learn about a certain person. In turn, you’ll get to not only inspire those that are younger than you, but get inspired by them as well! There is no better way to finding senior empowerment than embracing your loved ones around you. Your children and grandchildren won’t know what hit them when you tell them about your crazy teenage days.

“Youth” is in the Eye of the Beholder

Looking for senior empowerment? Above all, stay away from social groups or family members that exclude you or treat you differently as you age. Some individuals become close-minded and forget to maintain a bond with their loved ones because of their age. This is true even among people who have been friends for a very long time. Everyone evolves, changes and adjusts to their age. Some of us embrace the changes, and some of us like to use them as a crutch and limit their joy because they don’t have the energy or motivation to continue living to the fullest. If you feel the need to change up your friend group – do it! The key to happiness is surrounding yourself with positive people. Be spontaneous and do what you love regardless of who’s watching. Hopefully you enjoyed
