Our Top 3 New Year’s Resolutions to Make in 2018 | Euro-American Connections & Homecare

You may have read our recent blog about making new habits that can help you lead a happy, successful life, both with your senior loved one, and on your own! As we approach the new year, we thought it would be extremely helpful to make a list of the best ways to embrace the new year, and make each day not only productive but positive and filled with joy!

1.) Get tech savvy

Did you know that seniors are the fastest-growing group of individuals using social media? If you don’t have a computer or smartphone, and if your loved one doesn’t have one either, take time to invest and get out of your comfort zone! The internet offers countless ways to communicate with your friends and family, whether it’s through a simple email, or face-to-face Skype conversation or Facebook post where you can share photos with one another constantly. This is our favorite way to stay connected, and of course, keep our loved ones in touch with their families and grandchildren each and every day.

2.) Embrace your story

Going off of the first resolution you can make together, try making time to start a journal or diary and getting creative with sharing each other’s thoughts, dreams and wishes through poetry, prose, fiction or whatever your hearts desire. Writing is not only great for the mind, but keeps your hands active and brain ticking, so be sure to add a nice leather-bound journal or stationary to your Christmas wish list this year!

3.) Age with confidence

There’s nothing worse than feeling like because of your age, you can no longer do certain things, travel certain places, stay in touch with certain people, and worst of all – stop yourself from doing what makes you feel alive, simply because of fear. Make this year a year of growth by signing up for a fitness class with some friends, take a pottery or painting class, and doing whatever else you’ve always wanted to do but were too busy to make time for. Your client or loved one may feel the same way, so never forget that no matter how old you may be, you are constantly growing, evolving, and becoming the person you were always meant to be.

This 2018, be brave. Be daring! Set goals, build bonds, and strengthen your relationships with the ones around you. They too can help you make the most of the new year. We wish you the very best in making your dreams a reality!
