Join the Alzheimer’s Association “Shared Voices” Community Choir

Interested in exploring an exciting form of memory care and/or joining a choir? Look no further!
The Alzheimer’s Association of Connecticut is opening up a special choir program for adults of all ages diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s, their caregivers and families. Shared Voices is an intergenerational chorus (non-skill based) that gives persons diagnosed and their families a chance to do something fun, socialize and make music together!
Music is powerful, and not surprisingly can benefit patients with Alzheimer’s in tremendous ways. Besides it being super fun, singing actually…
- Taps into a person’s autobiographical memory
- Awakens old memories by evoking old emotions
- Engages patients, especially in a group setting
- And, interestingly enough, singing and making music are the last remaining abilities of an Alzheimer’s patient
The Alzheimer’s Association of America has a special web page dedicated to patient therapy that mentions ways to incorporate music into your caregiving routine that you and your client can explore.
Rehearsals for Shared Voices will happen twice a month at First Church in Granby, CT between June – September, and registration is required.
