What Middletown Families Should Know About Us

A River Port That Became a College Town

Middletown was incorporated in 1650 under the name Mattabeseck, was renamed in 1653 and became a city in 1784. The city describes itself as originally a busy sailing port, then an industrial center, and today the downtown is a college town for Wesleyan University. All of it, from downtown out to Westfield, Newfield and Maromas, is inside the area we cover.

Next Door to Our Own Town

Middletown borders Berlin, where our office is. From the office on the Berlin Turnpike to City Hall on deKoven Drive is 9.9 miles by road, about fourteen minutes when the roads are clear. We still have no Middletown branch and we say so. The caregiver comes to the house, and one of our two field supervisors visits every client at home once a month.

Across the Bridge Is Portland, and That Is Ours Too

The Arrigoni Bridge crosses the Connecticut River between Middletown and Portland, and Portland is in our approved service area for the same three services. A daughter on one bank and a mother on the other deal with one agency and one phone number, and the caregiver goes to whichever house the care is in.

Getting Started Is Simple

A Clear, Guided Process from Initial Call to Caregiver Match

  1. Reach out by phone or by filling out our online form, and THREE things come back to you. A FREE foundational Plan of Care tailored to you and your loved one, along with potential caregiver(s) profile(s) near you, and a list of questions to ask home care agencies.

  2. Our goal is to create the most effective Plan of Care for your loved one. One of our Client Managers will reach out to schedule an in-home visit. This allows us to get to know you and your loved one personally, understand their needs, and assess the home for safety. We'll note any existing adaptive equipment and flag any adjustments that could better support their independence at home.

  3. Based on everything we have learned about your loved one, we will send you a couple of pre-selected caregiver profiles that we believe are a good match for your loved one's needs, preferences, hobbies, personality, etc. Once you have chosen a caregiver you feel good about, you have the option to meet them before services begin.

  4. On the first day of services, our Field Supervisor will be on-site to ensure the Plan of Care is fully understood and followed. Clients are encouraged to ask questions, and we will be there to ease the transition every step of the way. From there, our Field Supervisor will continue with monthly in-home visits to ensure quality care is maintained.

Common Questions

Home Care in Middletown — Common Questions

We live in Westfield. Is that part of Middletown?

Yes. Westfield, Newfield and Maromas are all part of the City of Middletown, and a home in any of them is covered like one downtown. Tell us the name you use for your part of town, but it is the street address that goes on the schedule.

My mother only needs someone at night for now. Do we have to book 24-hour care?

No. Overnight care covers the evening to the morning on its own, with an awake caregiver, and 24-hour care is for when someone is needed at every hour. The free Plan of Care sets the hours, and they can be changed as her needs change.

Can a caregiver go with my father to appointments at Middlesex Hospital?

Yes. Going with your father to an appointment is part of hourly care and of 24-hour care: the caregiver accompanies him and looks after his safety along the way. We are not connected to the hospital, so the appointment time and where to arrive come from the department he is seeing. For questions about how we would plan around it, call (860) 829-0208.

My mother lives in Portland, across the river. Do you cover that too?

Yes. Portland is in our approved service area for hourly, overnight and 24-hour care, the same three services as Middletown, so it is the same service and the same phone number on either side of the Arrigoni Bridge. Say which side she is on when you call and give us the street.

Why You Need a Plan of Care for Your Loved One?

A Plan of Care tells you exactly what level of support your loved one needs without committing to anything. We put it together because every family making this decision deserves clarity before they commit.

Tailored specifically to your loved one — their routines, their preferences, their history, their situation. Not a template. Not a generic checklist. A plan built for one person — yours.

You own the plan — always. You walk away with it regardless of what you decide next.
