My mail says Old Greenwich, not Greenwich. Does that matter?
No. Old Greenwich, Riverside and Cos Cob keep their own post office names and ZIP codes, but all three belong to the Town of Greenwich and are covered like every other part of it. Give us the street; that is what the schedule needs, not the village name.
I live in Westchester and my mother is in Byram. Can I arrange care from there?
Yes. Everything up to the first visit happens by phone and email, so it makes no difference whether you call from Rye, White Plains or Manhattan. Ring (860) 829-0208 or start the free Plan of Care online and a coordinator will take you through it; the visits themselves are at your mother's home in Greenwich.
Greenwich is sixty-nine miles from your office. Who will we actually meet?
The caregiver, first of all, who comes to the house. Beyond that, one of our two field supervisors visits every client at home once a month, so someone from the company sees how things are going for themselves. The coordinator you speak to on the phone is in Berlin, and that is where the scheduling is done.
Can a companion go with my father to the Wallace Center?
Yes, if he would enjoy it and his plan of care allows. Support in attending senior-center programs is part of companionship care. The Wallace Center, at 299 Greenwich Avenue, is run by the town's Commission on Aging for residents 55 and older; we are not connected to it, so membership, classes and hours are best asked of the Commission itself.
Which do we need, companionship or respite?
They are the same hours seen from two sides. Companionship is for the older person: conversation, a walk, cards, someone there in the afternoon. Respite is for whoever has been doing the caring, covering the hours so that they can rest, keep an appointment of their own or get away. Tell us who is carrying the load and what the week looks like, and we will say which one it sounds like.
