When Is 24-Hour Care Recommended?

24-hour care is typically recommended when a senior's safety or comfort cannot be reliably assured without someone being awake and present through the night.

High Fall Risk

Seniors who are unsteady on their feet or prone to getting up at night without assistance need an alert caregiver nearby at all times to prevent falls.

Memory Care Support

Seniors with advanced cognitive changes who may become confused, distressed, or wander at night benefit greatly from continuous, patient presence and gentle redirection.

Post-Hospital Recovery

The first days and weeks after discharge are often the most critical. Intensive around-the-clock support helps ensure a safe and steady recovery at home.

Total Care Needs

Seniors requiring frequent repositioning, hygiene assistance, or close monitoring throughout the night need full-coverage awake care to maintain comfort and dignity.

Why You Need a Plan of Care for Your Loved One?

A Plan of Care tells you exactly what level of support your loved one needs without committing to anything. We put it together because every family making this decision deserves clarity before they commit.

Fill out one plan of care. Walk away with caregiver profiles, the right questions to ask homecare providers and caregivers, and a roadmap because every family deserves clarity before they commit to anything.

Getting Started Is Simple

A Clear, Guided Process from Initial Call to Caregiver Match

  1. Reach out by phone or by filling out our online form, and THREE things come back to you. A FREE foundational Plan of Care tailored to you and your loved one, along with potential caregiver(s) profile(s) near you, and a list of questions to ask home care agencies.

  2. Our goal is to create the most effective Plan of Care for your loved one. One of our Client Managers will reach out to schedule an in-home visit. This allows us to get to know you and your loved one personally, understand their needs, and assess the home for safety. We'll note any existing adaptive equipment and flag any adjustments that could better support their independence at home.

  3. Based on everything we have learned about your loved one, we will send you a couple of pre-selected caregiver profiles that we believe are a good match for your loved one's needs, preferences, hobbies, personality, etc. Once you have chosen a caregiver you feel good about, you have the option to meet them before services begin.

  4. On the first day of services, our Field Supervisor will be on-site to ensure the Plan of Care is fully understood and followed. Clients are encouraged to ask questions, and we will be there to ease the transition every step of the way. From there, our Field Supervisor will continue with monthly in-home visits to ensure quality care is maintained.

Common Questions

Questions Families Ask About 24-Hour Home Care

How many caregivers will be assigned to my loved one?

Typically, we assign a dedicated team of 2–3 caregivers who rotate on 8 or 12-hour shifts to ensure full coverage with no gaps. We aim to keep the team small and consistent so your loved one builds familiarity and comfort with each caregiver.

Do the night shift caregivers stay awake all night?

Yes. Unlike live-in care, 24-hour awake care means the overnight caregiver is fully awake, alert, and actively monitoring your loved one throughout their shift. They are immediately available for any nighttime assistance — from a bathroom trip to calming a restless moment.

What is the difference between 24-hour care and live-in care?

Live-in care uses a single caregiver who resides in the home and has assigned sleep hours at night but can assist 1-2 times during the night if needed — making it suitable for seniors who are generally stable overnight. 24-hour care uses rotating shifts so that one caregiver is always awake and available, making it appropriate for seniors who need active supervision or frequent assistance at any hour. A private bedroom is required for live-in care but not for 24-hour care.

Can 24-hour care be used short-term, such as after a hospital discharge?

Absolutely. Many families use 24-hour care for a short period after a hospital stay, when needs are most intensive, and then transition to hourly or live-in care as their loved one's condition stabilizes. We offer flexible term lengths and can adjust the care plan as the situation evolves.

Does 24-hour care require a spare bedroom?

No. Because caregivers work in rotating shifts and do not sleep in the home, a private bedroom is not required for 24-hour care. This makes it a practical option for seniors in apartments, condominiums, or smaller homes where a dedicated guest room is not available.

How quickly can 24-hour care be arranged?

We understand that some situations require urgent action. After an initial consultation, we work quickly to assemble a care team and can often begin care within a few days. If your situation is urgent, please call us directly at (860) 829-0208 and we will do everything we can to expedite placement.
