Who Is This Service For?

At Euro-American Homecare, we believe that companionship is not just about care. It's about presence, dignity and never feeling alone.

Seniors Living Alone

Silence is louder than we realize. We think the TV fills the space, but it doesn't satisfy the human need to be heard, seen, and valued. Companionship means more than just being present. It brings hope. It's someone who encourages them to eat, move, and take care of themselves. It's someone who notices when things feel off before they become serious. They want independence, but they don't want to feel isolated. That's the key difference.

Widows & Widowers

When they lose a spouse, they lose not just a person, but also a part of themselves. At the same time, they often lose friends, routines, and even a sense of purpose. Companionship serves as unspoken therapy. It's someone who listens to the pain, the memories, and the repeated stories. It's someone who shows empathy, support and stays present. Families may see just a conversation. But what's really happening is healing.

Limited Family Nearby

When family lives far away, love still exists, but presence is missing. And presence is what makes all the difference. A companion steps in to show up on holidays, share a meal so they actually eat, listen when the day feels heavy, and bring warmth back into an empty home. This isn't an expense; it's a connection between distance and dignity.

Social Seniors

They have always enjoyed talking, connecting, and engaging. That doesn't disappear with age, but it can fade when no one is there to engage with them. Without real interaction, decline starts to happen quietly. Memory fades, mood shifts, and depression can set in. Companionship keeps them alive from within: it brings meaningful conversations, shared laughter, and someone who values their voice even if they tell the same story more than once.

Why You Need a Plan of Care for Your Loved One?

A Plan of Care tells you exactly what level of support your loved one needs without committing to anything. We put it together because every family making this decision deserves clarity before they commit.

Fill out one plan of care. Walk away with caregiver profiles, the right questions to ask homecare providers and caregivers, and a roadmap because every family deserves clarity before they commit to anything.

Getting Started Is Simple

A Clear, Guided Process from Initial Call to Caregiver Match

  1. Reach out by phone or by filling out our online form, and THREE things come back to you. A FREE foundational Plan of Care tailored to you and your loved one, along with potential caregiver(s) profile(s) near you, and a list of questions to ask home care agencies.

  2. Our goal is to create the most effective Plan of Care for your loved one. One of our Client Managers will reach out to schedule an in-home visit. This allows us to get to know you and your loved one personally, understand their needs, and assess the home for safety. We'll note any existing adaptive equipment and flag any adjustments that could better support their independence at home.

  3. Based on everything we have learned about your loved one, we will send you a couple of pre-selected caregiver profiles that we believe are a good match for your loved one's needs, preferences, hobbies, personality, etc. Once you have chosen a caregiver you feel good about, you have the option to meet them before services begin.

  4. On the first day of services, our Field Supervisor will be on-site to ensure the Plan of Care is fully understood and followed. Clients are encouraged to ask questions, and we will be there to ease the transition every step of the way. From there, our Field Supervisor will continue with monthly in-home visits to ensure quality care is maintained.

Common Questions

Questions Families Ask About Companionship Care

Is companion care covered by insurance?

While typical medical insurance does not cover companionship, many long-term care insurance (LTCI) policies do. We can help you verify your coverage during the consultation.

How many hours per week do people typically book?

Most families start with 2-3 visits per week for 3-4 hours each, but it is completely customizable to your loved one's preferences. We can help you find a rhythm that fits naturally into their existing routine.

Can companionship care be combined with personal care assistance?

Yes. Companionship visits can be combined with light housekeeping, meal preparation, errands, or personal care assistance. Many families start with social support and naturally expand the scope as needs grow.

How do you match a caregiver with my loved one?

We look at personality, interests, communication style, language, and cultural background when pairing caregivers with clients. The goal is a genuine connection — not just someone who shows up on schedule. If the first match isn't ideal, we will find a better fit.

Do you offer companionship in languages other than English?

Yes. Euro-American Homecare has long served Eastern European families across Connecticut. We have caregivers who speak Polish, Ukrainian, and other languages. Cultural familiarity makes companionship visits feel more natural and meaningful.

What if my loved one is hesitant about having a caregiver?

When a parent is hesitant to start care, we have their child introduce the caregiver as a friend helping them out for a while. Framing it this way eases worry and shifts the focus away from needing help. The parent will often feel relaxed and come to enjoy the visits, seeing it as a kind gesture for their child to help out.
